Going down south, we will head to Rome and that’s where our journey to the south will begin. The mighty Rome and its historic glory will be in your mind on every corner of this vibrant city and one of the World capitals and it's definitely a must see. We will take care in our motorcycle tours of Italy to reveal you a part of Rome from the saddle of your motorbike as our guided motorbike tours to Sardinia and to south Italy and Sicily depart from Rome and we would certainly recommend you if you have a possibility to arrive few days before the tour departure in order to explore this glorious historic city that has so much to offer you to fuel your soul. Yes, Rome is Italy in its full power of rich and deep history, respect, full of life and full of heart all in one place. It is the right place to start our journey to the south!

A glass of wine in front of Pantheon in the evening after a tasteful dinner in trattoria or street food experience of tasting famous Roman local dish called “suppli” is one of the lifetime experiences and a definite must try. And we are extremely happy to reveal you such experiences during our guided motorcycle tours.

But, our motorcycle tours of Italy and Italian journey usually gets more and more exciting with every mile going down south. First we hit the famous and incredible Naples, an exciting Italian city. Naples, a city in southern Italy, sits on the Bay of Naples. Nearby is Mount Vesuvius, the still-active volcano that destroyed nearby Roman town Pompeii. Dating to the 2nd millennium B.C., Naples has centuries of important art and architecture. Apparently, Naples isn't known for being the safest place in all of Italy. In fact, in the minds of many foreigners Naples is synonymous with The Godfather, the Italian Mafia, and street crime. In our experience, Naples is a very safe and welcoming place to visit and travel in.

However, you should take care as the crime level is pretty high so watch out where you park your bike (make sure you use public garages that are guarded, usually cost approx. 15 euro per night and you can be sure your bike is safe and guarded. Don’t be surprised if they ask you to leave them your bike keys, it is normal and safe, they need it in order to move bike in case needed as the garages can be crowded. But don’t worry, they are very friendly and will take care of your bike while you explore the city and walk its vibrant narrow streets and taste amazing local specialties. We will show you tips and tricks and hidden gems of Naples as this is one of our favourite cities on our motorcycle tours of Italy.

But what else did we know about Naples and what we will experience on our motorcycle tours of Italy? It's the third largest city in Italy — after Rome and Milan. It is also one of the poorest places in Europe, with an unemployment rate of almost 11 percent. Naples is also known for its natural beauties, such as PosillipoPhlegraean Fields, Nisida, and Vesuvius.

Neapolitan cuisine is noted for its association with pizza, which originated in the city, as well as numerous other local dishes. There is truth to the common stereotype that Naples, Italy is a poor and dirty city ruled by the mafia. Indeed, organized crime and political corruption have hampered the city's development for decades. Some of the best neighbourhoods to stay In Naples are definitely Centro Storico, famous vibrant Quartieri Spagnoli , Vomero - best area to stay in Naples for nightlife, Chiaia – coolest place to stay in Naples, Piazza del Plebiscito..

Our motorcycle tours of Italy continue further, visiting amazing Vesuvius volcano and famous Pompeii, an ancient city ruins that was completely covered with lava after volcanic eruption. Pompeii was destroyed because of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius on August 24, 79 CE. Just after midday on August 24, fragments of ash and other volcanic debris began pouring down on Pompeii, quickly covering the city to a depth of more than 9 feet (3 metres).

After a day tour, we continue further riding one of the World's best coastal rides riding the gorgeous Amalfi coast, a scenic route alongside the sea coast. Amalfi is a town in a dramatic natural setting below steep cliffs on Italy’s southwest coast. Between the 9th and 11th centuries, it was the seat of a powerful maritime republic. The Amalfi Coast is known for its production of limoncello liqueur as the area is a known cultivator of lemons, known as sfusato amalfitano in Italian, which are grown in terraced gardens along the entire coast. We will make sure to taste one in some of the breaks (though not too much as we need to ride on sober :) . The Amalfi Coast boasts some of the world's finest fish cuisine. Shrimps, redfish, pezzogne, bream, sea urchins, octopus, blue fish, molluscs, are the protagonists of unforgettable recipes such as "scialatielli ai frutti di mare", a dish made with sea food and the fresh pasta typical of the Amalfi Coast.

Our amazing scenic coastal motorcycle ride and a bit of zen we will experience on with the view down the cliffs of Amalfi overlooking the beautiful coastline, we will be reaching one of the peaks of our motorcycle tours of Italy – a thrilling Sicily!

We will This will be an exciting day for us! We will ride along the coast towards Sicily and reach the very peak of the Italian “boot” – the famous Messina pass. We will take the ferry and in half an hour we will take off in Sicily. The city of Messina will be the starting point of our exciting Sicilian journey! Get yourself ready!

Sicily, the largest Mediterranean island, is just off the "toe" of Italy's "boot." Its rich history is reflected in sites like the Valley of the Temples, the well-preserved ruins of 7 monumental, Doric-style Greek temples, and in the Byzantine mosaics at the Cappella Palatina, a former royal chapel in capital city Palermo. On Sicily’s eastern edge is Mount Etna, one of Europe’s highest active volcanoes.

Messina is known as the door of Sicily. With its port, shaped like a sickle, it has always been a trading city. Situated close to the Peninsular, there has been busy throughfare between Messina and the Mainland, over the centuries. Today Messina is still a thriving port and hugely important for the economy of Sicily and Italy. Combining a favourable year-round climate together with a host of historical buildings, this is a fantastic first place to explore on your Sicilian adventure.

We will enter the hilly and green inlands of Sicily towards Caltanisetta. A ride through the green inlands of Sicily, breathing in the wonderful scent of nature. We will pass by the Nebrodi nature resort on one side, and the Etna Mountain on the other (we will visit those in the days that follow). In the afternoon we will reach the beautiful city of Caltanissetta, known for typical Sicilian culture and historic heritage. Here is where we enjoy the authentic Sicilian cuisine, wine tasting and relaxation.

Heading further through the beautiful inlands of Sicily on our motorcycle tours of Italy, enjoying the roads and sceneries, we will pass through the famous city of Palermo – a controversial city famous for its connection with the Italian Mafia, but also well-known for its marvellous arts and culture, including numerous UNESCO World Heritage sites.  On our way to Palermo, we will pass through the city of Corleone. Remember the Godfather movies and the infamous Don Vito Corleone? Well, this is where the inspiration came from!

As usual on our motorcycle tours of Italy, we have to enjoy some of its beauty and authenticity every day during and after our awesome rides. We will have a day off in Palermo and visit some of its wonderful cultural attractions. We will take the time to enjoy its vibrant beauty, authenticity and historical sights. Here we will taste some of the famous Sicilian wines paired with marvellous local food.

Palermo is the capital of the Italian island of Sicily. The 12th-century Palermo Cathedral houses royal tombs, while the huge neoclassical Teatro Massimo is known for opera performances. In the city centre there is the Palazzo dei Normanni, a royal palace dating from the 9th century, and the Cappella Palatina, with its Byzantine mosaics. The city in also known for its busy markets, including the central Ballarò street market and the Vucciria, near the port.

An exciting ride will reveal to us some truly breath-taking locations, such as the area called Valley of Temples near the city of Agrigento. This hilly coast is the home to some of the best-preserved Greek temples in the world.  Visiting the temples will take a few hours, after which we will take a break and have a relaxing dinner.

A ride along the southern shore of Sicily and the Ionic Sea will take us to a couple of beautiful and authentic local cities such as Noto: a marvellous UNESCO World Heritage location with the amazing architectural sites, some of which were also locations for some of the most famous Hollywood movies. In the evening we will reach Catania, the famous Sicilian port – large enough to offer the best of Sicily all at one place and let you experience its vibrant southern spirit and boundless energy. It is situated on the coast, which will enable you to enjoy the best fish in the area at almost any corner of the town.

We will take a little break and enjoy a day in Catania and have an exciting visit of the nearby Etna Mountain, famous for its active volcano! Don’t worry, you will be safe: the volcano is permanently active, but safe for visitors. The cable car takes you to the very top of the mountain where you can take a walk on some of the inactive craters or even visit the main crater (a ride to the top in special vehicles).

Our motorcycle tours of Italy will take us further, leaving Sicily and heading further to explore the exciting Italian south. We will continue riding along the coast, and also cover a bit of inlands and the beautiful Calabria region. We will leave the Messina cross where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Ionic Sea and end up in the port of Crotone. Crotone is a historical strategic point of the Italian south, famous for its 9th century fortress and numerous monuments from the times of the ancient Greeks and Romans.

Riding along the coast of the Ionic Sea, we will enjoy the endless view of the deep blue sea spreading all around us. In late afternoon we will reach the city of Lecce, located in the very “heel” of the Italian “boot”. This marvellous city is a must-see location in southern Apulia. It is best known for its wonderfully preserved masterpieces of baroque architecture. Lecce is commonly nicknamed "the Florence of the South". The city was founded by the ancient Greeks and therefore shows numerous monuments of the ancient Greek culture.

From one beautiful city to another, our ride continues towards the amazingly charming Alberobello - a small town and a commune of the Metropolitan City of Bari, in the region of Apulia. It has 10735 inhabitants and is famous for its unique trullo buildings. The Trulli of Alberobello, limestone dwellings and remarkable examples of drywall constructions have been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. On our way we will pass through Matera, a town located atop of a rocky outcrop in the southern Italian region of Basilicata. It includes the Sassi area, a complex of cave dwellings carved into the mountainside. This will be a great ride, revealing the diverse beauty of the Italian south in all its might. In the evening we will reach a city of Benevento. Due to its artistic and cultural significance, the Santa Sofia Church in Benevento was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a patron saint of Benevento is Saint Bartholomew, the Apostle, whose relics are kept at the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. Depending on our arrival, we will take you to a short sightseeing.

On the last riding day of our exciting journey, we will ride back to Rome and take time to let the images sink in and the impressions settle. There will be time to have some fun together and share the most memorable events from our tour. Let the farewell dinner in Rome be the point of planning the next trip together. Oumotorcycle tours of Italy are certainly one of our favourite tours, filled with thrilling and scenic rides, amazing experiences of some of the most beautiful cultural and natural sights and amazing gastronomic experiences in the World. Italy indeed has it all.

Depending on your departure flight, you might choose to have another short visit of Rome, enjoy some more Italian coffee on the city streets and squares, or a nice farewell drink with a view of the beautiful Roman arena.
